This bold graphic was originally the very first sports mascot for Sarah Lawrence College when they decided to create a unique, non-traditional design. Charles was commissioned to create a mythological 'Griffin' (spelled Gryphon) that combined the wisdom of the eagle with the courage of the lion. During the assignment, Charles initially created a traditional sports mascot, but Sarah Lawrence College requested a non-traditional image. The final solution was the image to the left in the top row, which was placed on the University's basketball court for many years. Subsequently, SLC decided to create a more traditional sports mascot, so the design has been changed. The image to the right (viewed in full double spread in the image below to see both aspects at once) is a revised version of the original mascot that Charles now owns the rights to.
